It is unfortunate that the current increase in Covid-19 cases, with its associated rise in hospitalisations and deaths, has had to lead to a further tightening of regulations. As a consequence, the already reduced Godmanchester Remembrance Day events have now been cancelled in their entirety. There will not be a ceremony at the War Memorial in the morning, and the evening service has also been cancelled. Instead, we would encourage those who wish to mark Remembrance Sunday to join the Town Council in a 2-minute silence on your own doorsteps at 11.00 on Sunday 8 November.
It has been a difficult eight months so far and, until we have a vaccine, it is likely to continue so for some time. However, you have an excellent local assistance network provided by the Covid-19 Mutual Aid Group, and your street coordinators will be making themselves (re)known to you shortly. The Community Timebank is also operating very well, as is the Godmanchester Foodbank. Your community is here for you, so do not be afraid of asking for any help that you need – contact details are on the Town Council website.
Let us hope that this coming period of national lockdown will be weathered with the same resolution as that earlier in the year, and that it will reduce the current number of infections and deaths. Our joint wish is that it can then be eased sufficiently to allow the end of year celebrations to go ahead for all our families.
